Santosh Kumar Jana
A Nature Photographer
Shri. Santosh Kumar Jana is from the village Kaliachak of the district of East Midnapur, West Bengal, where he was born on 19th November,1973. From his very childhood, Shri Jana had been a keen observer of nature and natural phenomena and a great lover of the flora and fauna of his neighborhood and the adjacent areas. As he was doing well with his academic studies also, his father Shri Amar Chandra Jana and mother Late Khuku Rani Jana always encouraged him in carrying on with his passion. After completing school education Shri Jana went on to achieve B.Sc. degree from the University of Calcutta and also earned a diploma in photography from Bangiyo Bijnan Parishad.
Finally, from 1996, Shri Jana seriously started his photographic journey as his profession. But unlike most of other persons in this profession, he became deeply absorbed in studying ‘Art photography’ and ‘Nature photography’ in particular. He started participating in national and international competitions and won hundreds of acceptances and awards from them. Shri Jana’s photographs have been published in Ananda Bazar Patrika, Bhraman magazine, National Geographic magazine, Sanctuary Asia, Better Photography, Smart Photography, ‘Bon’ magazine and many others in India and abroad.
The continuity of success of Shri Jana in the field of photography earned him the honours ‘Artiste FIAP’ and ‘Excellence FIAP’ from the Federation Internationale L’Art Photographique, the supreme international body of the photographic world. He has also been awarded the Associateship of India International Photography Council.
To mention some of his activities towards propagation and awareness of photography amongst common people, the following are only a few – solo exhibition of nature photographs, conducting a number of photographic salons every year, arranging photography workshops by himself and on invitation, acting as a member of the jury panel of a number of salons, etc. Shri Jana’s regular involvement in this field is that he is the secretary of the East Medinipur Photography Association where he keeps himself engaged in every bit of activity for its flawless running. It is specially mentioworthy that his association also arranges free distribution of books and study materials etc. to the needy students and other residents of his neighbourhood.
